Today was a hard driving day because of the weather. The rain made it difficult to see the faint white lines on the road. I slowed my speed to 50 in the 65 mph limit and stayed in the right lane. Many thanks to the tanker who I followed for the worst part of the storm.
Except for today, I have enjoyed driving more than I thought I would. Driving is more fun when you are actually driving and not sitting in traffic. Living in LA, it’s been a long time since the navigation screen showed fewer minutes than miles to get to a destination.
There have been interesting signs along the way. Today I saw “Buckle Up: Next Million Miles.” Earlier in my trip from Park City to Salt Lake City, UT, this made me laugh, “It’s a lane, not a birthright. Let them merge.”
Tomorrow I will arrive in Rhode Island where I will live for two months. Thought I’d take this chance to summarize my stays:
- Las Vegas, NV – LaQuinta Suites
- Marysvale, UT – Paiute Trails Inn
- Park City, UT – Airbnb
- Delta, CO – Airbnb
- Denver, CO – VRBO
- Cozad, NE – Cobblestone Hotel & Suites
- Oglesby, IL – Days Inn
- Clive, IO (Des Moines West) – LaQuinta Suites
- South Haven, MI – Ruth & Ron’s
- Austintown, OH – Wingate by Wyndham
- Bud Lake, MI – Extended Stay American
Observations:
- Most hotels have all white bedding now, which I like. It’s so much better than those nasty, polyester, patterned bedspreads.
- LaQuinta Suites is my travel hotel of choice. Most don’t charge extra for dogs, and they are consistent.
- Hotels are cheaper outside of major cities which is why I’ve never heard of most of the places I stayed.
- VRBO rentals tend to be more expensive than Airbnb.
- Don’t choose a city based on ego, i.e. Marysvale.
